Love your job, not your company

A friend of mine who is smart, and intelligent, was employed with a public sector Insurance company. Through his sheer grit and hard work, he did well and rose up the ladder in his company very fast where he could have easily risen to number two or three ( if not one) in the hierarchy. When private companies entered the insurance sector a few years back, he, being famous in his field, was offered a hefty package by one such company having foreign collaboration. The salary offered was so irresistible that he chucked out his well established job and joined this MNC. Having rich experience in his field, he again worked very hard and captured the whole insurance market in his area of responsibility for the said company. Meanwhile the company also started recruiting young MBAs and gradually started by-passing these experienced hand picked guys who had helped raise the company in the beginning. They were in fact the founding team of the company in India. The top management felt that they had reached a point of saturation.

Given his firm and upright character he was not able to put up with the indifference shown by his employers and he again put in his papers. He is working as a free lance insurance consultant now and is doing well for himself. The sheer love of his job saw him through this ardous journey, otherwise, after leaving his second job he would have been on the cross roads.

So friends, the moral of the story is 'Love your Job, but not your company. You never know when does the company stop loving you or vice versa'
