Accommodation for VIPs

I had written a post some time back on this subject. In the light of recent incident of two of our ministers, one of them a cabinet and the other, a minister of state, staying in presidential suite of Maurya Sheraton and an expensive suite of hotel Taj Mahal, spending over Rupees One Lakh and Rupees Fifty Thousand per night respectively, while their official accommodations get renovated, i need to repeat the link here for that post to let my blogger friends find the contrast. Here is the link.

Though the ministers have stated that they are paying the hotel charges from their pockets, yet the expenditure incurred in these times of recession is colossal. I don't doubt their being so rich, after having read the list of assets declared by our politicians at the time of recent elections. Almost all of them are crorepatis.

I will appeal to both these ministers and other crorepati netas not to poop off their 'hard earned' money like that and instead donate part of their riches on health and education of the deprived children of their constituencies, in case they desire to get re-elected from the same.

What to donate, actually it is donated money only in the form of taxes.

Thank you, HDWK

Happy, yes the money is the same that we have paid as tax which they, being our netas, have ultimately earned.

Balvinder,I wrote a similar post this morning.Do they want us to believe that they are spending over Rs 1 lakh each per day???
Are they not ashamed of even talking like this?

Since their career is 'to serve the poor', I think your appeal is justified.

I dont even believe them..50 lakhs is the rent of the room for Mr. Tharoor, whereas few lakhs will add to the food and sundry expenses.... in a country suffering with draught and exorbitant prices for food products its a shame for the govt.

Network problem, will come back here soon.

Mr. Chowla, i read your post, could not leave a comment there earlier because of some network problem at this end. Yes you are right in pointing out in your post that these are present day maharajas. In fact the govt stopped privy purses of the erst while princes, but these self styled princes are draining the country's wealth more than what maharajas did.

IHM, yes but i hope they read this appeal here.

Ash, yes Dr. Kalam is an exception and that is the very reason that he has not been given a second term as President.

Renu, yes but who bothers about the country. They want their luxuries.

Gosh I vaguely hrd some news over Shashi Tharoor & his explanations on Twitter but 1,50,000rs per night is so much money whether they r spending or the state....esp for somebody who took an oath for the serve the country.

Nancy, i am surprised that Mr. Shahi Tharoor has picked up the habits of the politicians so fast.

Last night i watched the News Hour Debate on 'Times Now' TV chanel and was surprised to find near unanimity amongst all the politicians taking part in the debate belonging to different parties in arguing their case for not favouring the Government's order which asks them to travel economy class while on official trip.

Who is bothered about the country's economy anyway.
