Thackreys are Harming Marathi Manoos

Thank you BlogAdda for choosing this post in your 'Tangy Tuesday Picks'

The Thackreys (first Bal and now Raj) have been arguing that speaking of Marathi language in Bombay will result in improving the plight of Marathi Manoos. I just fail to understand that how the forcing of a local language on all and sundry living in the metropolitan city will result in development of the local community.

Here i will like to give the example of Punjab state which has a large number of migrants from Bihar doing all sorts of sundary jobs, right from tilling the farm land along with local farmers, to driving autos, cycle rickshaws and working in the factroies or at shops etc. The Punjabi community has never felt threatened by their presence and is rather happy getting the helping hand from them. As far as the Punjabi language is concerned, every Bihari who has lived in Punjab for more than a year can be heard speaking broken Punjabi. And that is out of sheer liking for the language and not out of any pressure. The 'bhayya' Punjabi has become a dialect in itself. If you approach an auto or a cycle rickshaw puller outside Jalandhar bus stand or railway station you will be greeted with a question asked by him in broken bihari-punjabi "tuseen Keethey Jaana".

A community, which is hard working and has rich heritage and culture, does not need to be afraid of outside influence but rather dyes the outsiders in its own hue.

The Maratha land, has given the country its warriors like Shivaji, its freedom fighters like Tatya Tope, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Gopal Krishan Gokhale, its artists like Lata Mangeshkar, its sports persons like Sachin Tendulkar in addition to Dada Saheb Phalke who founded the Bombay film industry to which artists form all corners of the country have contributed. Maharashtra has also contributed to the Indian Army in the form of a crack regiment like Maratha Light Infantry.

The development of Marathi manoos is not at the mercy of the goons of Thackreys who go around thrashing outsiders to force them to speak Marathi language.

Mere speaking of a language will not lift up its people. I feel that the Thackreys are doing to the Marathi manoos what Taliban is doing to the Muslim world ie, more harm than good

Rationally and logically what you say is so true but it is also bad for our politicians who thrive on divide and rule... they always pick emotive issues of the problem while avoiding the developmental or core issues... because these are long term, and human memory is very short, except when looked back in hind sight.

JP, yes the politicians have nothing to do with the development of the common man. Their actions are mere gimmicks to catch votes. But sad to say that such goons are elected to the august houses of Parliament and state Assemblies.

i have added two more paras at the end of the post. You may like to have a relook.

How do we know said...

i fully, completely agree with what you are saying - esp with the metaphor used. The Taliban and the thackreys, while purporting to work for a community, are in fact, working against that community's interests in a big way..

balvinder,Raj and Balasaheb make these statements to please a certain section of electorate.Unfortunately, they get the silent support from the national parties.
Problem of language started the day Pt Nehru divided the states on linguistic basis.

very nice thought to put up........but how to overcome such problems???????

Agree with the two paras that you have added.. they are absolutely true. Like every other Indian, Maharashtrians too contributes to making a great nation like India. Your examples are names of people who make India proud, and they happen to be born Maharashtrians.

You have analysed it objectively. I agree. I feel any organisation that uses violence, hate and fear should be looked upon with suspicion. But it seems it will take sometime for the voters to understand this.

IHM, i only wonder that how come voters can become such gullible fools that they can't see the sinister designes of these netas and vote them back to power

JP, but these great Maharashtrians are also not spared by the likes of Thackreys. Balasaheb has not even spared Sachin Tendulkar.

Deep and Cynosure, it is only the intelligent voter who will be able to defeat the designs of these rogues only if every one votes. This time the voter turn out in Bombay was dismal 40%

Mr. Chowla, yes the dirty politics of the congress only gave encouragement to these negative forces to raise their head.

HDWK, yes i could not think of a better comparison.

I just see it as a politics and business.
This will continue until educated class do not vote.

Balvinder Balli said...

SM, yes that is right. Only educated and right thinking voters can bring about the desired change.

Its all a political game and trying to gain mileage from it.

The Marathi Manoos has to decide whether they want themselves to be known for the violence (carried out be the so called guardians of Marathi Manoos) or for their Marathi asmitha.

PNA, yes it is all the game of votes and notes for these politicians who have utter disregard for the country's development, security and harmony.

Thanks for cmpliments and yes bigadda gave a pleasant surprise by including my post in their Tangy Tuesdays.

The Survivor, these self styled guardians are in fact digging the grave for the community that they are showing to be supporting.
